Visitor entry

Video intercoms for apartment buildings

A video intercom lets residents see and speak to visitors and release the door. Prox Access supplies and installs Comelit video intercoms for strata buildings and connects them with STid mobile access, so residents use their phone and visitors use the intercom.

How it works

Intercom and access control together

  • Entrance panel: visitor presses the apartment button and is seen on camera
  • Indoor monitor or app: resident answers and releases the door
  • Access control: residents skip the intercom and enter with their STid vCard
  • One door release: both systems open the same lock

FAQ

Questions about intercoms

Can an intercom work with phones instead of an indoor monitor?

Many current IP video intercoms can forward calls to a resident’s smartphone app as well as, or instead of, an indoor monitor. The options depend on the model and the building’s network, which we confirm during the review.

Can the intercom work alongside STid mobile access?

Yes. The intercom handles visitors and the access control system handles residents. Both can release the same door, so residents use their phone credential and visitors are let in from the intercom.

Do we need new cabling to upgrade an old intercom?

Not always. Some systems run over existing two-wire cabling, while IP systems need network cabling. We check what is installed before recommending an option.
